In its annual enlargement report<\/a> , the European Commission warned the Ukrainian authorities that blocking the international activities of opposition MPs, freezing their assets, and imposing other restrictions is unacceptable.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are talking primarily about the fifth President, the leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko.<\/p>\n

“Some opposition MPs remain subject to certain restrictions, particularly regarding foreign travel and asset freezes. To ensure democratic resilience, the rights of the opposition must be continuously respected. No legislative initiatives regulating the rights of the parliamentary opposition have been developed or registered,” the European Commission report states.<\/p>\n

As reported, on November 3, the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeals ruled unlawful the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution “On Amending the Rules for Crossing<\/a> the State Border by Citizens of Ukraine,” which effectively created a system of manual control over the exit of members of parliament and officials. This decision was made in response to a lawsuit filed by Petro Poroshenko, whose international visits have been repeatedly blocked, against the Cabinet of Ministers. But, most importantly, it is a ruling against a system that allows the authorities to abuse the ban mechanism against all members of parliament and all levels of councils, European Solidarity noted. The government must now immediately repeal this illegal resolution, the MPs believe.<\/p>\n
