On the island of Oleron in France on November 5, a driver deliberately ran over pedestrians and cyclists, injuring 10 people. The man was arrested at the scene and his actions are being treated as attempted murder, local law enforcement officials said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the investigation, after the collision, the driver tried to set the car on fire. A stun gun was used to detain him, while the suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar.” The motives for the attack are currently being determined by the investigation.<\/p>\n

Among the injured are people with serious injuries. The mayor of Saint-Pierre-d’Oleron, Christophe Suer, said the driver had “deliberately intended to hit all the people he could meet.” The arrested man is a 35-year-old Frenchman known to the police for violations of the law, including theft and drunk driving.<\/p>\n

French President Emmanuel Macron received information about the event during a flight to Brazil and had a telephone conversation with Interior Minister Laurent Nunes, who arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n

Local deputies and officials expressed their condolences to the victims and emphasized that Oleron is not used to terrorist attacks, but the actions of the detainee indicate an intention to take the lives of other people. Among the wounded is an employee of a deputy from the National Unity party, who received serious injuries.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers are continuing their investigation, establishing all the circumstances of the incident and examining the possible motives of the attacker.<\/p>\n
