We are facing an unprecedented number of drone incidents and sabotage within the EU. We have a duty to protect our citizens. From now on, stricter rules will apply to Russian nationals applying for EU visas. Dozens of outraged posts flooded the internet \u2014 all in the same indignant tone. Russian officials joined in the chorus of lamentation. Even Milonov from the State Duma couldn\u2019t resist, while the ever-predictable Latynina lashed out at Ukrainians and EU allies, warning of <em data-start=\"358\" data-end=\"375\">\u201cconsequences.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"379\" data-end=\"399\">Latynina declared:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"775\">\n<p data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"775\">\u201cThe main consequences of the EU\u2019s decision to ban multi-visas for Russians: \u2026 these people \u2026 have now been slapped in the face with a boot and told \u2014 you, genetic slaves, know your place. \u2026 Before our eyes, a revolution is taking place in the attitude of the Russian elite and business toward the West. \u2026 And its results may unpleasantly surprise the EU in a few years.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"1189\">Former head of the so-called Anti-Corruption Foundation and Navalny ally Leonid Volkov was equally distraught, claiming that these visas were <em data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"994\">\u201ca lifeline for many courageous activists who continue to work in Russia\u201d<\/em> \u2014 that is, those who still pay taxes funding the war against Ukraine. He added that switching to single-entry visas \u201cdeprives them of the ability to urgently leave Russia in case of problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1261\">And finally, State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov theatrically lamented:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1262\" data-end=\"1519\">\n<p data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1519\">\u201cThe EC initiative will primarily hit opposition-minded citizens and opponents of the special military operation. Kallas has struck the snout with a pig\u2019s hoof at this stinking mass of \u2018non-combatants,\u2019 all those \u2026 boys who were promising mobilization.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1521\" data-end=\"1654\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\u2014 The crocodile tears are impressive, but the EU\u2019s message couldn\u2019t be clearer: if you start a war, don\u2019t expect to vacation in Nice.<\/p>\n\t\t<aside class=\"shortcode-also\" data-title=\"Read also\" data-right>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/europe-still-believes-in-the-myth-of-good-russians\/\">Europe still believes in the myth of \u201cgood Russians\u201d<\/a>\n\t<\/aside>\n\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"427\">\u201cJournalist\u201d Sergei Parkhomenko reacted in his usual tone of offended superiority, calling the EU\u2019s decision <em data-start=\"109\" data-end=\"218\">\u201can act completely remarkable for its stupidity, inefficiency, and frank, even demonstrative helplessness.\u201d<\/em> He added that the European Commission\u2019s exception for \u201ccorrect\u201d journalists and activists from Russia would, in fact, serve as a <em data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"380\">\u201ccertificate of unreliability\u201d<\/em> for them in the eyes of Russian authorities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"912\">Indeed, the new EU rules do include limited exceptions \u2014 for some justified cases: independent journalists and human rights defenders, representatives of public organizations (categories under which \u201cgood Russians\u201d usually disguise themselves), other so-called \u201cvulnerable Russians,\u201d and their family members. The same applies to <em data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"814\">\u201crelatives of EU residents and citizens\u201d<\/em> \u2014 that is, Russians who have already managed to obtain European residence permits or passports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"1180\">Still, the overall trend is unmistakably positive. Europe is finally beginning to grasp the obvious: Putin is not the sole source of the problem. Ordinary Russians \u2014 those who silently supported, justified, or financed this war \u2014 are themselves a very real threat.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1182\" data-end=\"1548\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Yes, the restrictions are still mild and partial: single-entry visas instead of a complete halt to visa issuance. But the direction is clear. Europe\u2019s patience is finite, and its awakening has begun.
