Donald Trump’s administration has taken the initiative to rewrite the annual UN General Assembly resolution on the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Kyiv Post, Washington proposes to remove direct references to the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemnation of Russia’s actions from the document.<\/p>\n

The resolution, submitted annually by Ukraine, traditionally affirms its sovereignty and documents human rights violations by the occupying power. Last year, it was supported by 78 countries, including the United States.<\/p>\n

According to diplomatic sources, the US side wants to replace the terms “aggression” and “territorial integrity” with the more neutral expression “war in Ukraine.” Experts and European diplomats warn that such a move could dilute the clear position of the UN and send a signal to Moscow of weakening American support.<\/p>\n

“This could be a worrying sign for the Kremlin that the US will no longer act as the main guarantor of international order,” notes one Western diplomat.<\/p>\n

The resolution will soon be considered by the General Assembly’s Third Committee, which is responsible for human rights. European countries are actively working to convince the US to keep key language before the vote.<\/p>\n

For Ukraine, the significance of the document goes far beyond political symbolism: the resolution not only condemns the occupation, but also creates a legal basis for future international investigations.<\/p>\n

This dispute coincided with the release of a new report by the UN Independent International Commission, which confirms Russia’s systematic human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories \u2014 including deportations, mass killings, and forced displacement.<\/p>\n

“These are not isolated cases, but part of a policy aimed at destroying Ukrainian identity,” emphasizes the head of the commission, Eric M\u00f6se.<\/p>\n

Despite the official US explanation that the changes are being made “for inclusiveness”, Ukraine’s allies perceive them as a step towards legalizing Russia’s actions in the occupied territories.<\/p>\n

“The question is not just about words. It is about whether the world will continue to recognize the occupation as illegal, or accept it as reality,” the European diplomat adds.<\/p>\n

At the same time , European deputies unanimously condemned the threats from the Russian Federation, stating the need to coordinate measures to protect the airspace and critical infrastructure of member states<\/a> . The adopted resolution insists on a tough policy against actions that undermine the security of the EU and its allies.<\/p>\n
