Washington has almost reached the limit in introducing new restrictions against the Russian Federation, as most key sectors of its economy have already been sanctioned. Further US efforts will be aimed not at introducing new measures, but at strengthening control over compliance with existing ones.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> US Secretary of State Marco Rubio after the meeting of foreign ministers of the G7 countries, which took place in Canada.<\/p>\n

“There are virtually no areas left where sanctions can be expanded. We have already hit Russia’s largest oil companies – this is exactly what everyone expected,” Rubio emphasized.<\/p>\n

He also commented on the fight against the so-called \u201cshadow fleet\u201d of the Russian Federation, which is used by the Kremlin to circumvent oil restrictions. According to the Secretary of State, these US actions should be seen as part of the mechanism for monitoring the implementation of sanctions, and not as the introduction of new ones.<\/p>\n

Rubio emphasized that European partners should be more actively involved in this process, since a significant portion of Russian vessels pass in close proximity to European shores.<\/p>\n

Answering journalists’ questions about whether Moscow seeks peace, Rubio noted that one can only judge by Russia’s specific actions:<\/p>\n

“Moscow has clearly outlined its goals – it wants to capture the rest of the Donetsk region. Such demands are absolutely unacceptable for Ukraine,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State also commented on the intensive missile strikes by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, noting that Russia’s goal is to destroy the energy system and demoralize the population.<\/p>\n

According to him, the United States continues to work closely with Ukraine to stabilize the energy grid. In particular, the possibility of providing the necessary equipment and defense systems to protect energy facilities is being considered.<\/p>\n

“The problem is that the installed equipment is often destroyed within a few days of installation. This is a serious challenge that has been going on for two or three years,” Rubio concluded.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the United States of America supported the initiative of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to use Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, Russia is rapidly losing ground on the energy market \u2014 refined fuel exports have fallen to their lowest level since the start of the full-scale war. Western sanctions, Ukrainian drone strikes on oil ports, and technical shutdowns of plants have hit the Kremlin’s main source of income.<\/a><\/p>\n
