The government plans to give Ukrainians UAH 1,000 as part of the Winter Support program, but wants to finance it by cutting other social spending. According to accompanying documents, the government proposes to take money from programs to protect children and low-income families.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Cabinet documents indicate that 11 million citizens will receive the “winter thousand”, which requires 11 billion UAH. The payment is planned to be made through the program “Social Protection of Citizens in Difficult Life Circumstances”, which currently lacks funds.<\/span><\/p>\n

To close the deficit, the government proposes to reduce funding for the “Social Protection of Children and Families” program by UAH 3.042 billion and the “Support for Low-income Families” program by UAH 1.483 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Finance sharply criticized this approach. Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko pointed out errors in the documents and stated that the implementation of the initiative could lead to “loss of expediency in using budget funds.”<\/span><\/p>\n

As previously reported, the “winter support” program will begin operating in Ukraine in December<\/a> , which provides for one-time payments for various categories of citizens. The amount of assistance will range from 1,000 to 6,500 hryvnias.<\/p>\n
