Russian forces have begun using long-range drones controlled via fiber-optic communication. This technology makes it difficult to intercept UAVs and poses a serious threat to transport routes and supplies to Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new threat was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov. He emphasized that the flight range of such drones can reach 50 km – an indicator unattainable for most known fiber-optic FPV-UAVs.<\/p>\n

Previously, drones were controlled via radio channels that were easily jammed by electronic warfare. New drones use a cable that maintains stable control even on the battlefield, making them virtually invulnerable to electronic warfare.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian military is already working on countermeasures, from ambushes and special interceptors to protecting cargo with nets. According to Fedorov, the most effective method of intercepting such drones is precise destruction during flight, which requires quick reaction and attentiveness.<\/p>\n

The minister also warned that the use of fiber-optic drones could herald a new phase of warfare \u2013 a transition to autonomous drones capable of operating without an operator, which significantly increases their danger.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Russian forces have reportedly begun using Igla man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) mounted on attack helicopters to target Ukrainian long-range drones.<\/a> Available photos show a Mi-28N helicopter with the Strelets system and four launchers, likely designed to counter UAVs.<\/p>\n
