Two lions escaped from a private wildlife rehabilitation center in Khmelnytskyi region. One predator has already been returned, and the search for the second continues with the involvement of drones and law enforcement officers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rehabilitation center noted that the escape occurred at night after the locks on the enclosure door were damaged by unknown persons.<\/p>\n

The head of the facility, Serhiy Palyokhin, reported that in the morning he discovered broken fasteners that allowed the animals to leave the center’s territory.<\/p>\n

“When I arrived in the morning, I saw damaged locks. This is what allowed the lions to leave the territory,” said Serhiy Palyokhin.<\/p>\n

Staff quickly located one of the lions and returned it to safety. The second lion remains in hiding and its whereabouts are being determined.<\/p>\n

The Khmelnytskyi Oblast State Emergency Service announced that they plan to involve a unit with unmanned aerial vehicles in the search. The drones will help quickly survey the surrounding area.<\/p>\n

In parallel, a pre-trial investigation<\/a> into the fact of animal cruelty is underway. According to the prosecutor’s office, several animals in neighboring enclosures died during the incident. Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the lions’ escape, the circle of possible persons involved, and assessing the actions of the center’s employees.<\/p>\n

One animal has been caught, and the search for the second is ongoing. Rescuers are urging local residents to be vigilant and report any signs of the predator.<\/p>\n
