American actor Tom Cruise received an honorary Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences during the Governors Awards ceremony.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He was also honored by country legend Dolly Parton, director and choreographer Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas.<\/p>\n

The honorary statuette was presented to Cruz by Mexican director Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu, who is currently working on a film about the actor. The film is not yet titled, but its premiere is scheduled for October 2026.<\/p>\n

After receiving the award, Cruise gave a speech in which he thanked the people who create cinema. He also noted that cinema is “a force that can unite people.”<\/p>\n

“(Cinema, – ed.) helps me appreciate and respect differences. It also shows our common humanity, how similar we are in so many ways. No matter where we come from, in this movie theater we laugh together, feel together, hope together, and that is the power of this art form. That’s why it is so important to me.”<\/p>\n

This is the first Oscar in Tom Cruise’s career, although he has been nominated for the award four times – for the films Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, Rain Man, and also for producing the film Top Gun: Maverick.<\/p>\n
