US President Donald Trump has called on Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune to step up work on a bipartisan bill on new sanctions against Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was stated by<\/a> Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, quoting Trump’s words during their Sunday golf game, when the president emphasized that without continued military support for Ukraine and the fight against countries that buy cheap Russian oil, peace agreements with Moscow are impossible, writes CNN.<\/p>\n

Graham announced telephone talks with colleagues from the House of Representatives and the Senate, emphasizing that “it is very important that this issue does not go off the rails.”<\/p>\n

According to the senator, “if Putin is not convinced that the US will maintain military support for Ukraine and continue to pressure with sanctions, no 28-point or 12-point plan will work.”<\/p>\n

Senate Majority Leader Thune confirmed that many senators support Graham’s bill and see it as a powerful tool to pressure the Kremlin. He noted that it would be easier to start consideration in the House of Representatives, as revenue and taxation issues are addressed there.<\/p>\n
