Former Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenko arrived for questioning at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. According to media reports, his participation is related to the investigation of the Midas corruption case in the energy sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to sources, Galushchenko is accompanied by lawyers. After the interrogation, investigators may determine his procedural status in the criminal proceedings regarding corruption at Energoatom.<\/p>\n

At the time of the events in this case, Herman Galushchenko was the Minister of Energy. The investigation claims that his former advisor, Ihor Mironyuk, acted as a “supervisor” for the state-owned enterprise. The Ministry of Energy later distanced itself from Mironyuk, and he himself stated in court that he was Galushchenko’s lawyer.<\/p>\n

As part of the operational materials, NABU has published recordings of conversations between the persons involved in the case. One of the episodes recorded communication between Herman Galushchenko and President Volodymyr Zelensky. The context of these materials suggests that the president’s phone call was made at the request of businessman Timur Mindich.<\/p>\n

Amid the investigation , the government initially suspended Galushchenko from his ministerial duties<\/a> , and later the Verkhovna Rada voted to dismiss him<\/a> . Despite this, as of today, he has not been charged with any crimes, and his possible role in the corruption scheme has not been officially determined.<\/p>\n

Sources also report that on November 19, the parliament adopted a decision to dismiss Herman Galushchenko from the post of Minister of Justice, as well as to remove Svitlana Grinchuk from the post of head of the Ministry of Energy. The media reported that both officials may have left the country, but Grinchuk denied this information.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, Operation Midas concerned the activities of an organized group that influenced the financial flows of NNEGC Energoatom. Among the recorded episodes was the extortion of “kickbacks” in the amount of 10 to 15 percent of the value of contracts. Five persons involved in the case were detained and taken into custody with the possibility of bail.<\/p>\n
