US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in Geneva that the deadline set by President Donald Trump for Ukraine to adopt a peace plan could change. The talks discussed the progress of the 28-point peace plan and further steps to engage Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rubio stressed that the deadline of Thursday for agreeing on a peace plan is flexible, adding that it is important to complete the process as quickly as possible to prevent further loss of life.<\/p>\n

“We want to meet the deadline as soon as possible. Of course, we would like to meet it by Thursday. We have made a lot of progress, so I am optimistic that we will achieve a result in a very reasonable time frame, very soon,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n

He clarified that regardless of the specific day, it is important to conclude the negotiations quickly, because people’s lives are at stake.<\/p>\n

“Whether it’s Thursday, Friday, Wednesday or Monday next week, we want it to happen soon because people are dying,” he added.<\/p>\n

Rubio stressed that the peace plan continues to evolve with input from all sides, calling it a “living document” that receives new input every day.<\/p>\n

“It’s a living, breathing document. Every day, with input, it changes,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State added that Russia has not yet participated in the negotiations, but will be involved at the next stage.<\/p>\n

“Obviously, we have to take what we have received \u2014 if we can reach an agreement with the Ukrainian side \u2014 and present it to the Russian side,” he explained.<\/p>\n

Rubio also reported that President Trump is pleased with the progress of the negotiations and positively assesses Ukraine’s involvement in discussing key points of the 28-point plan.<\/p>\n

“Today was a very productive day \u2014 the most productive of our entire effort,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that despite significant progress, there are still several points that need to be worked on. A final decision requires the signatures of US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russia’s consent.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to declare victory or the finale here. There’s still work to be done, but we’ve made significant progress today compared to when we started the day,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n
