The White House and Minsk are working on the possible release in the near future of over a hundred political prisoners of the Belarusian regime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was reported<\/span><\/a> by Reuters.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to sources, despite the fact that Belarus has already released several dozen people earlier, the US wants to achieve another wave of release within the framework of a single agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is currently unknown which political prisoners may be released. Western human rights organizations claim that the Belarusian government is holding more than 1,000 prisoners.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Reuters notes, the US push for the largest prisoner release to date is part of a \u201ccontroversial campaign\u201d to improve relations with the authoritarian state in exchange for the prospect of sanctions relief.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some U.S. officials said the Trump administration\u2019s efforts are part of a broader U.S. strategy to remove Minsk from Moscow\u2019s geopolitical orbit, at least slightly. Reorienting Belarus toward the West would be a strategic victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States stands ready to engage with Belarus in furtherance of U.S. interests and will continue efforts to secure the release of political prisoners in Belarus,\u201d a State Department spokesman said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recall, it was previously reported that Alexander Lukashenko pardoned 31 Ukrainian citizens<\/a> imprisoned in Belarus.<\/p>\n

By the way, on June 21,a number of political prisoners were released in Belarus<\/a> , including opposition figure Serhiy Tikhanovsky. <\/p>\n
