Ukraine finds itself in an extremely difficult situation, where any talk of a \u201cquick peace\u201d actually means only a crushing defeat and loss of independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This was stated by the Ukrainian Ambassador to the UK, former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, in a column for Liga.net.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, the current situation demonstrates that even such a dubious “peace” has not been achieved, and Russia’s appetites may extend far beyond Ukraine.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Now I wonder if this is a consequence of Russia’s appetites, which could extend beyond Ukraine? Clearly, yes. It’s all due to a misunderstanding of Russia’s political goals and a lack of its own political vision,” Zaluzhny noted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He emphasized that any delay in the war harms the advancing side, and Russia cannot afford a pause. Therefore, expecting peace without a new security system in Eastern Europe is unrealistic.<\/p>\n

“Those who give up liberty for a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety,” he quoted Benjamin Franklin, adding that this is precisely how policies are being formed in Europe and the United States today.<\/p>\n

The former commander-in-chief notes that while Western politicians were building illusions and fantasizing about upcoming elections and the restoration of Ukraine, the front line was advancing to the Dnieper, and now to Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes one gets the impression that even at the front, just like a hundred years ago, they are no longer waiting for victory, but for the long-awaited peace,\u201d writes Zaluzhny.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that Russia’s main goal is the elimination of Ukrainian subjectivity and independence, and the transformation of Ukraine into a “gateway to Europe” for its own expansion.<\/p>\n

“Ukraine must cease to exist as an independent state\u2014that’s the Russians’ goal. We, Ukrainians, must remember this conclusion. Understanding it must form the basis for developing our own strategy for preserving the state,” the ambassador emphasized.<\/p>\n

It is known that a meeting between US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Geneva, during which the parties discussed the updated American peace proposal. The talks demonstrated significant progress and agreement on positions regarding further steps<\/a> .<\/p>\n

The day before, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in Geneva that the deadline set by President Donald Trump for Ukraine to accept the peace plan could be changed. During the talks, the progress of the 28-point peace plan and further steps to engage Russia were discussed<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Yesterday, it was announced that the first session of negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations concluded in Geneva<\/a> , during which the parties recorded progress on joint peace proposals. Representatives of Ukraine and the United States stated that the process will continue and will be supplemented by new agreed-upon provisions.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and a member of the Ukrainian delegation at the peace talks, stated that the peace document with the United States is in its final stages<\/a> . According to him, the document already contains Ukraine’s key priorities.<\/p>\n

Key provisions of a draft US “peace plan,”<\/a> allegedly agreed upon by representatives of Donald Trump and the Kremlin, were previously revealed. The document contains 28 points concerning Ukraine’s security, territory, economy, and future.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, the full text of the European counter-draft to the American 28-point peace plan for Ukraine was released in Brussels<\/a> . The document, prepared by the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, proposed amendments to each point of the basic plan.<\/p>\n
