Different price dynamics are predicted in different categories – from a slight increase to a more noticeable increase.

This is reported by “News.LIVE” .

As is known, at the end of the year, the food market experiences a period of increased demand related to preparations for the Christmas and New Year holidays. People actively purchase products for the festive table, choose gift sets and seasonal delicacies, which affects the overall dynamics of prices.

According to economist Volodymyr Chyzh, in December the demand for meat products traditionally increases. This may lead to a seasonal increase in prices within 5–10 percent. The greatest growth is expected for pork — up to 10 percent. According to the expert, chicken will remain the most stable, and beef may increase in price by 3–6 percent.

“Given purchasing power, the meat segment does not show sharp jumps, but the pre-holiday load traditionally gives short-term growth. Pork may grow the most – up to 10 percent, due to active demand for dishes for the holiday table,” said Volodymyr Chyzh.

Imported fish, including salmon, trout, and mackerel, can increase in price by 10–15 percent due to seasonal demand. Ukrainian fish, such as carp or silver carp, typically increase in price by up to 5 percent, especially around Christmas.

“The pre-holiday period is the time of maximum demand for sausages, ham, salami and other delicacies. In December, prices may increase by 8–12 percent, especially for products in the middle and premium segments. Price fluctuations for budget types of sausages will be minimal,” said Volodymyr Chyzh.

According to the expert, fruits, in particular citrus fruits — oranges, tangerines, and lemons — traditionally become more expensive in December. A 10–15 percent price increase is expected. Ukrainian-produced apples and pears may rise in price by 3–5 percent, and bananas by 5–8 percent due to dependence on the exchange rate.

“Potatoes, beets, carrots, and onions may increase in price by 2–5 percent,” said Volodymyr Chyzh.

At the same time, bell peppers, cucumbers, and greenhouse tomatoes may increase in price by up to 15 percent due to seasonality and dependence on energy sources.

“There are no grounds for drastic changes, so before the holidays, a price increase of no more than 2–3 percent is expected. This is due to the stability of production and significant competition between manufacturers,” said Volodymyr Chyzh, commenting on the situation with bakery products.

According to him, December is the month of maximum sales of sweets and chocolate products. Premium gift sets may increase in price by 10–15 percent, mid-range chocolate by 5–8 percent, and budget candies will likely remain within stable prices.

“An additional factor in the increase in the price of chocolate products is the cost of cocoa on world markets, which have demonstrated instability throughout the year,” said Volodymyr Chyzh.

In general, according to his forecast, before Christmas and New Year, seasonal price increases are expected to be within 5–12 percent, depending on the product category. Imported goods and delicacies may increase in price the most, while basic Ukrainian products will increase in price minimally.

It was previously reported that food prices are expected to rise in Ukraine in the second decade of December before Christmas and New Year. According to economist Oleg Pendzin, the price increase will affect key products for the holiday table.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

At the end of the year in Ukraine, demand for products for the holiday table traditionally increases, which affects their cost.
