The SBU detained a Russian operative in Bukovina who was preparing new Russian strikes on Chernivtsi. Counterintelligence officers found that the agent was collecting data for missile and drone attacks and calling on the occupiers to strike throughout the western region.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Security Service of Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

Investigators found out that the Russian agent was a 35-year-old local resident who was hiding from mobilization. The occupiers recruited him via Telegram, where he supported Russian aggression and shelling of civilian cities. After recruitment, the man began to walk around Chernivtsi, photographing industrial enterprises, railways, aviation infrastructure and other objects that, in his opinion, could be of interest to the enemy.<\/span><\/p>\n

He compiled the collected information into “reports” and transmitted it via a Russian intelligence chatbot. At the same time, he left anti-Ukrainian comments on the banned social network VKontakte and even supported the July missile and drone strike on Chernivtsi, which claimed the lives of civilians.<\/span> <\/p>\n

The SBU detained the attacker in his home. During the search, law enforcement officers found pro-Kremlin symbols, drawings, and a smartphone with evidence of Russian strikes. The detainee was charged with high treason and public justification of Russian aggression. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.<\/span><\/p>\n

The operation was carried out by SBU officers in the Chernivtsi region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was previously reported that counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the contract killing of a reconnaissance soldier of the Defense Forces in Zaporizhia.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the SBU exposed an agent couple who were collecting data on the work of a defense enterprise in southern Ukraine<\/a> . The female agent and her roommate were trying to obtain secret information to pass on to Russian special services.<\/p>\n
