European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU may impose new economic restrictions against Belarus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She wrote<\/span><\/a> about this<\/span> on the social network X.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official noted that she had a conversation with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, the situation on the border with Belarus is deteriorating due to the increasing number of intrusions of smuggled balloons into Lithuanian airspace.<\/span><\/p>\n

Von der Leyen stressed that such hybrid attacks by the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, are completely unacceptable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLithuania continues to enjoy our full solidarity. We are preparing further measures within our sanctions regime,\u201d she concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recall that Lithuania recently announced the launch of balloons carrying contraband from the territory of Belarus<\/a> . Against this background, Vilnius Airport suspended operations twice – first for five hours, and then the deadline was extended.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile \u0160akalen\u0117 stated that a Gerbera UAV had flown into the country from Belarus<\/a> .<\/p>\n

By the way, the Russian drone that crashed in Lithuania at the end of July was deliberately launched from Belarus<\/a> . The purpose of the launch was not only to test the effectiveness of the air defense system, but also to create psychological pressure.<\/p>\n
