Currently, the US has completely closed its borders to residents of 12 states, and seven more countries are subject to partial bans.

The reason for the intensified crackdown was the recent attack in the US capital, which killed a soldier and seriously injured another. The suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who arrived from Afghanistan in 2021, has been detained.

Following this, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a pause in the processing of all applications from citizens of 19 countries already under restrictions. This includes applications for green cards. In addition, USCIS plans a large-scale review of decisions made during the previous administration.

Trump and allies in Congress have accused Joe Biden’s team of “dangerous immigration policies” and called for much broader restrictions. The president has publicly confirmed that he is considering options that include:

expansion of the list of countries under ban;

citizenship review for some naturalized migrants;

termination of federal benefits for persons without a US passport.

In fact, it is about restoring the approaches that he used during his first presidential term and which were then supported by the US Supreme Court.

Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem confirmed that she had recommended that the president significantly expand the list of countries. Her statement was one of the most forceful yet:

“I just briefed the president. My vision is a complete ban on travel from all countries that pose a threat to us from crime and drug trafficking.”

The following are currently under a complete entry ban:
Afghanistan, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Partial restrictions apply to:
Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

The Trump administration promises to announce new decisions soon.

As a reminder, the United States has suspended all asylum and visa applications from Afghan citizens . This decision was made against the backdrop of the shooting incident near the White House and President Donald Trump’s statements about tightening immigration policy.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

US President Donald Trump announced that his administration is preparing a new phase of tightening migration policy, which will involve expanding the list of countries whose citizens may be denied entry to the United States.
