The meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Maloni in Rome was “not as ideal” as official statements indicated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This<\/span> is reported by<\/span><\/a> the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both officials put pressure on each other during the discussion. In particular, the Italian Prime Minister incited Zelensky to make possible concessions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cConsider that you may be forced to make some painful concessions,\u201d the newspaper quoted her as saying.<\/span><\/p>\n

Italy supports the White House’s rush to conclude a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, while the President of Ukraine asks for help in softening the position of US leader Donald Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Maloney, her government’s role is to achieve a just and long-term peace plan, but US leadership, not European, is a priority.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the Italian official believes that Zelensky has weakened after the investigation into corruption schemes in the Ukrainian government.<\/span><\/p>\n

In turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga has published a list of demands to Italy. For example, Kyiv wants a more active and stronger position on the release of Russian assets frozen in Belgium; a way out of the uncertainty of the PURL program delay and the purchase of American weapons; and the redirection of part of the funds that the EU uses to strengthen the armies of the bloc’s member states.<\/span><\/p>\n
