On the night of December 11, several regions of Russia were subjected to large-scale drone attacks, causing fires at industrial facilities and disruptions to air traffic around Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the incidents was a fire at the chemical plant of PJSC “Akron” in Veliky Novgorod. According to OSINT analysts, the fire could have been caused by a drone strike. Residents of the city published a video on social networks, showing significant flare-ups on the territory of the enterprise. <\/p>\n

Novgorod Region Governor Alexander Dronov confirmed the air defense forces were working, but did not provide any information on the extent of the damage or possible consequences. The plant is located about 700 km from the Ukrainian border.<\/p>\n

Acron is one of the largest producers of mineral fertilizers in the Russian Federation. In 2024 alone, the group’s enterprises produced about 5.9 million tons of products, of which 4.7 million tons were fertilizers. The holding also includes PJSC Dorogobuzh in the Smolensk region, which was also attacked by drones this night.<\/p>\n

In addition, according to Exilenova+, drones hit the Dorogobuzhskaya CHPP, an important energy facility with an electrical capacity of about 90 MW and a thermal capacity of over 240 Gcal\/h, which supplies regional industry and the residential sector. <\/p>\n

Massive drone attacks also took place in the Moscow region. Russian sources reported the raid on the evening of December 10. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin first announced the operation of the air defense system at around 10:41 p.m. Due to the threat to aviation, the airspace over Moscow was temporarily closed and the “Carpet” regime was introduced. Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports suspended take-off and landing flights. Sobyanin claims that in total about 30 drones were heading to the city.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that despite the war and sanctions, Acron Holding, Uralchem, and EuroChem remain the leading Russian fertilizer exporters. Their products have “humanitarian status,” allowing the companies to continue operating in foreign markets and generating stable profits.<\/p>\n

The leadership of Acron is under sanctions pressure from the West. The group’s co-owner, Vyacheslav (Moshe) Kantor, was subject to EU sanctions in 2022, but in March 2025 the restrictions were lifted under pressure from Hungary. In February 2025, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against the head of Acron Holding, Pavel Morozov, citing his ties to strategic sectors of the Russian economy, including the defense industry.<\/p>\n

According to analysts, some of the products of the Akron plant have a dual purpose and can be used in the production of explosives, which makes the enterprise strategically important for the Russian Federation and a potential target for attacks.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on the night of December 9 , several Russian regions experienced a large-scale drone attack<\/a> . The most notable were the explosions in Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic, where smoke rose and a fire broke out in the city after a series of strikes.<\/p>\n
