A criminal case has been opened in Finland against Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. She is suspected of resisting police during an Extinction Rebellion protest in Helsinki.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat<\/a> .<\/p>\n

The criminal case concerns the events of June 25, 2024. On that day, Greta Thunberg participated in a demonstration of the Extinction Rebellion movement in central Helsinki.<\/p>\n

According to journalists, during the action, the police demanded that the participants stop the protest and leave the street. Some activists did not comply with the law enforcement officers’ demand. Among them was Greta Thunberg.<\/p>\n

Thunberg was then taken to the police station. It was these actions that became the basis for the initiation of a criminal case on suspicion of resisting the police.<\/p>\n

Finnish media reports that such incidents are not uncommon for the Extinction Rebellion movement. In recent years, courts in Finland have repeatedly considered cases related to the movement’s actions. In most cases, the participants were found guilty and limited to monetary fines.<\/p>\n

It is also reported that on November 22, Extinction Rebellion activists held a protest in Venice. During the action, they poured paint into the Grand Canal, turning the water a bright green color.<\/p>\n

Two days later, it became known that 22-year-old Greta Thunberg and about 35 other participants in the action were fined 150 euros. In addition, they were temporarily banned from entering Venice.<\/p>\n
