A Ukrainian immigrant has died in a terrorist attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. The man was fatally wounded while trying to protect his wife during the mass shooting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by the Daily Mail.<\/a><\/p>\n

As is known, the terrorist attack occurred on December 14 on Bondi Beach in Sydney during a Jewish festival. According to police, two armed attackers opened fire on people on the crowded promenade.<\/p>\n

Among the dead was Ukrainian immigrant Alex Kleitman. According to his wife Larisa Kleitman, the man stood up to cover her with his body, after which he was shot.<\/p>\n

“I think he was shot because he stood up to protect me,” said Larisa Kleitman.<\/p>\n

The Kleitmans had been living in Australia since moving from Ukraine. They came west together to celebrate Hanukkah.<\/p>\n

According to official information, at least 15 people were killed in the attack, and dozens more were injured and hospitalized. The victims ranged in age from 10 to 87.<\/p>\n

Police said one of the attackers was shot dead at the scene, while the other was in critical condition. Police also found Islamic State flags, suggesting the attackers may have links to ISIS.<\/p>\n

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident an act of terrorism and an expression of anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n

“An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on all of Australia,” said Anthony Albanese.<\/p>\n

Investigators are continuing their investigation, establishing the motives for the attack and the possible connections of the perpetrators to international terrorist groups.<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that a mass shooting occurred on Bondi Beach in Sydney during an event marking the first day of Hanukkah<\/a> , resulting in the death of at least 11 people and the injury of 29 others. Police said the attack was directed against the Jewish community and was officially classified as a terrorist act.<\/p>\n
