The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has published details of a new modification of the Russian Geran-2 drone equipped with the R-60 aircraft missile. This is an adaptation of the Soviet missile to destroy Ukrainian aircraft and helicopters during counter-UAV operations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the \u201cWar&Sanctions\u201d portal of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

In the \u201cWeapon Components\u201d section of the \u201cWar&Sanctions\u201d portal, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published the structure, components, and list of enterprises cooperating in the production of the Russian Geran-2 UAV of the \u201cE\u201d series, which is equipped with the R-60 aircraft missile.<\/p>\n

According to the information provided, the Aggressor State adapted the Soviet R-60 air-to-air missile for installation on a drone in order to destroy Ukrainian helicopters and aircraft involved in intercepting Russian drones.<\/p>\n

The R-60 missile with the APU-60-1MD P-62-1MD aviation launcher is mounted on a special bracket in the upper front part of the \u201cgerani\u201d fuselage.<\/p>\n

The UAV is equipped with two network cameras located in the nose and behind the missile launcher. <\/p>\n

The video signal and control commands are transmitted via the Chinese mesh modem Xingkay Tech XK-F358. <\/p>\n

The flight controller, navigation and inertial units remain typical for other drones of this type. For satellite navigation in conditions of active electronic warfare, a 12-channel jamming-protected \u201cComet\u201d module is used.<\/p>\n

The electronic component also includes a Raspberry Pi 4 single-board microcomputer made in the UK, a tracker, and 2 GSM modems for telemetry transmission. <\/p>\n

The GUR noted that the countries of origin of the electronic component base remain the USA, the PRC, Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan, Germany and the UK. A full list of components with markings and photographs has been published on the \u201cWar&Sanctions\u201d portal.<\/p>\n

The likely principle of the missile’s use involves transmitting images from the drone’s cameras to the operator, who, in the event of a Ukrainian plane or helicopter appearing in the target area, gives the command to launch. After launch, the R-60’s thermal homing head independently captures the target.<\/p>\n

The main goal of this development is to create a threat to Ukrainian army and tactical aviation and reduce the effectiveness of intercepting Russian drones. The GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that it will continue to systematically expose the technological solutions of the Aggressor State and the international supply chains that provide its military machine.<\/p>\n

By the way, an expert in radio electronics and communications systems, Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, reported that an R-60 air-to-air missile was discovered on the strike drone used by the Russians to attack Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n
