This is a sharp decrease in the concentration of ozone in the stratosphere over Antarctica below 220 Dobson units between August and November.

This year, Ukrainian scientists recorded the first values below 220 Dobson units on August 3, and a stable return to normal occurred on November 17. During the season, reduced concentrations were observed on 81% of days, and the minimum indicator was 160 Dobson units – which is higher than in previous years.

The National Antarctic Science Center notes that these results confirm the overall positive trend recorded by CAMS and NASA Ozone Watch. According to Copernicus estimates, the 2025 ozone hole was relatively small for the second consecutive year.

Scientists attribute the gradual recovery of the ozone layer to the global ban on the use of ozone-depleting substances, adopted back in 1987. At the same time, the state of ozone continues to be influenced by natural factors – solar cycles, volcanic activity, and oceanic processes.

The National Academy of Sciences emphasizes that current data give reason to speak about the gradual “tightening” of the ozone hole and cautious optimism about the state of the Earth’s atmosphere.

It was previously reported that the NASA space agency is planning a manned mission to the Moon for the first time in 50 years.

Recall that NASA conducted a large-scale computer simulation that determined how long the Earth will remain favorable for human life.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram.

Scientists have recorded the shortest-lasting ozone hole over Antarctica since 2019 – it closed much earlier than usual.
