The Russian leadership continues to claim major victories on the front, claiming to have captured over 6,300 sq. km of Ukrainian territory by 2025. However, independent estimates suggest that these figures are greatly exaggerated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is evidenced by<\/a> a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).<\/p>\n

ISW analysts analyzed statements by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, during a briefing for military attaches on December 18, as well as comments by Vladimir Putin on December 17.<\/p>\n

Putin claimed that Russian troops had allegedly captured Siversk, but confirmed data suggests that the Russians control only about 77% of the city.<\/p>\n

Regarding Kupyansk and Kostyantynivka, Gerasimov claimed full control of Kupyansk and allegedly 50% of Kostyantynivka. However, ISW has not recorded any evidence of such a large-scale advance in Kostyantynivka. According to analysts, Russian forces actually control about 1.6% of the city’s territory, and their actions are limited to isolated assaults and infiltration operations.<\/p>\n

For comparison, even the most optimistic estimates of Russian military bloggers call for only 11% control of the city, which is significantly less than Gerasimov’s statements.<\/p>\n

Gerasimov also reported the alleged capture of over 6,300 sq km, which is more than the December 17 estimate by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov (6,000 sq km). ISW estimates the actual area under Russian control at approximately 4,700 sq km, which is just 1.04% of Ukraine\u2019s territory.<\/p>\n

ISW analysts note that the exaggeration of the figures by Gerasimov and Belousov is designed to create the illusion of a successful offensive and the weakness of the Ukrainian defense, although in reality the pace of the offensive remains low.<\/p>\n

Gerasimov’s briefing, according to experts, was used to repeat the statements of Putin and Belousov and spread these narratives among the international audience.<\/p>\n

Recall that Russia does not intend to abandon its goals regarding the occupied territories of Ukraine and is ready to achieve them both diplomatically and militarily.<\/a><\/p>\n

As reported, Russia has deployed up to 350-360 thousand combat-ready military personnel on the territory of Belarus<\/a> , who are not involved in the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n
