The Council of the European Union has extended economic sanctions against Russia for another six months. The restrictions will be in effect until at least July 31, 2026.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The decision was made on December 22. The sanctions cover trade, the financial sector, energy, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transportation, and luxury goods.<\/span><\/p>\n

The EU also maintains a ban on the import and maritime transport of Russian oil and certain petroleum products. The restrictions include disconnecting a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT system and suspending the operation of Kremlin-backed disinformation media outlets in the EU.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the European Union uses special mechanisms to counter the circumvention of sanctions. The EU Council emphasizes that it will maintain all restrictive measures as long as Russia violates international law.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is known that sanctions against the Russian Federation have been in force since 2014, and after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the EU significantly expanded them.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia’s economy is facing growing problems due to sanctions and high war costs, but these factors are not yet decisive for stopping the fighting. Analysts believe that the Kremlin retains the ability to continue the war against Ukraine for at least another 3-5 years.<\/a><\/p>\n
