Ukraine plans to change the approach to assessing the health of those liable for military service. The Ministry of Defense is preparing updated medical criteria that will determine citizens’ suitability for military service.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Military Ombudsman Olga Reshetylova said that the Department of Health of the Ministry of Defense has prepared proposals for revising the list of diseases. According to her, the current norms do not always reflect the real state of a person’s health and do not take into account the combination of several diseases at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She explained that in previous years, due to a shortage of personnel, the requirements for the physical condition of those liable for military service were significantly relaxed. As a result, people who formally met the criteria but were actually unable to fully perform their official or combat tasks were recognized as fit.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new proposals pay special attention to cases where a person has multiple chronic illnesses. Even if each diagnosis alone is not a reason for dismissal from service, their cumulative impact can seriously reduce physical endurance and performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reshetylova emphasized that fitness for service must be determined comprehensively, taking into account the general state of health. She also noted that constant stress and strain during war can quickly worsen the condition of even relatively healthy people.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, amendments to the Defense Ministry’s order No. 402 have already been prepared, but it is not yet known at what stage of consideration they are. At the same time, the update of medical criteria is called an important step to increase the efficiency of the service and reduce risks for the military.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, the Ombudsman stated that the service of summonses should be transferred to local governments and the police to ensure compliance with legal procedures and the protection of citizens’ rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

As previously reported, new functions have appeared in the Army+ application for military personnel, including a digital ID card for the defender of Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n
