Petro Poroshenko, in a final interview on the “Pryamiy” TV channel, said<\/a> that the key factor for Ukraine’s stability is the return of trust in the government from citizens and Western partners.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He stated that the corruption scandal involving government officials and people close to Bankova caused enormous damage to Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first, most important trust is the trust of society in all authorities. Society does not trust the authorities. Even under the fear of war, trust is undermined. They lie, they steal. And we are not going to put up with this. The second trust is no less important. This is the trust of the front to the rear. Because when a soldier in the trench says: \u201cAm I fighting for the Mindichs and for the Yermakov region? I am fighting for the best country in the world, Ukraine. And this is what slanders Ukraine. And we must act decisively together to restore this trust,\u201d Poroshenko believes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The politician is convinced that the third component of trust is the trust of foreign partners in the state of Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBecause citizens of other countries who say: \u201cWe are taking money from our pensioners, we are taking money from our needy, we are stealing opportunities for the development of our economy in order to give it to Ukraine, and they are stealing there \u2013 we are against it.\u201d And even if the leaders of the states are partners, friends of Ukraine, they are politicians. And they have to, if they are democratic states, take into account the reaction of their citizens,\u201d the fifth President explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, it is necessary to convincingly demonstrate that Ukraine has drawn conclusions and hold all those involved accountable.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow, a window of opportunity has appeared in the parliament to return subjectivity to the parliament. But the authorities think that \u201cMindich-gate\u201d has gone into decline. No. Because 90% of Ukrainians know what \u201cMindich-gate\u201d is. More than 50% are very well informed about it. And 77% say that NABU acted because there was little reason, and the authorities are involved in corruption. This is sociology. Like it or not, it is there,\u201d Petro Poroshenko stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also recalled that the conditions for financial assistance from European partners are maintaining the independence of anti-corruption bodies and the rule of law.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is a real success that the European Union has allocated us 90 billion euros for 2026-2027. These billions are interest-free, unlimited, and will be returned at the expense of the reparations funds of the Russian Federation. And the frozen assets still remain. And this will be another new opportunity. But no one will give us just like that. Now we have two conditions for these 90 billion. The first is the preservation of an independent anti-corruption infrastructure and its development. And the second position, which the Europeans wrote, is the rule of law. What is the rule of law? The first is independent courts. The second is democracy. This is freedom of the media,\u201d Poroshenko emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe rule of law as a condition for obtaining it is the rights of the opposition, the rights of journalists, the rights of parliament, the rights of public organizations, human rights. If you play with this, not only will they not give you money, but you will not get into the European Union. And the people will definitely not accept this,\u201d the party leader is confident.<\/span><\/p>\n

He assured that despite the war, judicial reform must continue in order to cleanse the judicial system of “tailoring” and prevent the final rollback of other European reforms implemented after 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe can restore the situation with public procurement, restore the situation with local self-government, restore the situation with competitions for public positions, restore the situation with the \u201cNew Ukrainian School\u201d, and with the Poroshenko-Suprun reform, and many, many others. If adults and responsible people carry out reforms, everything will be fine,\u201d the party leader noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also noted that Ukraine needs a government of national trust, because the time for a unity government has passed.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It won’t happen. And it won’t happen because Zelensky doesn’t understand how necessary it is. He thinks he can get by after Mindich-gate. I have a different point of view. But it’s his responsibility.”<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the fifth president, today we need to talk about a government of national trust. “The issue of restoring trust is the first issue of the current government. And without a reboot, without expanding the electoral field, without clear, responsible, adult messages to society – this attempt only prolongs the agony,” Poroshenko summed up.<\/span> <\/p>\n
