President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia not only rejected the idea of a “Christmas truce,” but also continues to shell Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He wrote<\/span><\/a> about this<\/span> in Telegram.<\/span><\/p>\n

The President noted that the occupiers attacked the Ukrainian energy sector with missiles and drones, leaving people without electricity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Zelenskyy thanked Pope Leo XIV for his constant attention to all diplomatic efforts to achieve peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

He stressed that Ukraine shares the disappointment over the Kremlin’s refusal to accept the recent proposal for a Christmas truce.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important that people around the world do not remain silent. It is important not to allow Russia to normalize cruelty, terror and aggression against our people. I call on all responsible leaders to support peace, as the Pontiff does. We are grateful for every such expression of solidarity,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that he did not rule out the possibility of a temporary ceasefire<\/a> at Christmas in Russia’s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n
