A passenger train derailed in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, killing at least 13 people and injuring 98 others, some of whom were hospitalized.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The accident occurred on one of the busiest routes between the port city of Veracruz on the Gulf Coast and the city of Salina Cruz on the Pacific Coast. The Interoceanic train derailed near the town of Nisanda.<\/p>\n

According to law enforcement, there were 250 people on the train, including 241 passengers and 9 crew members. As a result of the accident, 139 people were not injured, 98 people were injured, 36 of whom were taken to medical facilities.<\/p>\n

“Five of the injured are in critical condition,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.<\/p>\n

She also said that the government had sent senior officials to the scene of the accident to provide assistance to the families of the deceased and injured.<\/p>\n

Oaxaca State Governor Salomon Jara Cruz said that state authorities are coordinating with federal agencies to respond to the consequences of the tragedy.<\/p>\n

“The Attorney General’s Office has launched an investigation into the causes of the incident,” said Mexican Attorney General Ernestina Godoy Ramos. <\/p>\n
