Oil tankers carrying nearly 2.2 million barrels of Russian Urals crude are heading to India’s largest refinery, Reliance, on the country’s west coast. The cargo is expected to arrive early this month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reliance Industries Ltd. has resumed purchases of Russian crude after the United States imposed sanctions on key Russian oil companies, according to<\/a> Bloomberg. However, the purchased oil will be used for domestic processing into fuel, not for export.<\/p>\n

Analyst firm Kpler reports that tankers are heading to the large Jamnagar complex, where Russian Urals oil will be refined into gasoline, diesel and other products for India’s domestic market.<\/p>\n

Reliance had previously suspended purchases due to the sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, but the company has since arranged for supplies from other suppliers. Rosneft was previously the plant’s main supplier of raw materials, providing up to 500,000 barrels per day under a forward contract.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, US lawmakers have introduced a bipartisan bill to the Senate that would impose sanctions on the purchase or facilitation of imports of oil and petroleum products from Russia.<\/a><\/p>\n
