The Verkhovna Rada explained the situation surrounding the possible dismissal of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, and his likely replacement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, the president today suggested that Malyuk write a statement and move to the position of head of the Foreign Intelligence Service. He was also offered the position of secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. According to the deputy, Malyuk rejected both options and insists on continuing to work in the SBU.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Zheleznyak notes that there are currently no questions about the work of the SBU in the combat unit. He also claims that Malyuk, together with the Prosecutor General, previously refused to carry out illegal instructions regarding the mass handing over of suspicions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The People’s Deputy emphasizes that the dismissal or appointment of the head of the SBU is carried out exclusively by a decision of the Verkhovna Rada upon the proposal of the president. According to his assessment, there is currently no necessary number of votes for such a decision.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He also drew attention to the provision of the law on martial law, which allows the president to temporarily remove the head of the SBU by his decision. At the same time, the deputy believes that such a step will have a negative effect and political consequences.<\/p>\n

Zheleznyak concluded that even if Malyuk is dismissed, the question of the candidacy of a successor and the availability of votes in parliament remains open, calling the whole situation a “strange combination.”<\/p>\n
