Who is Nicolas Maduro?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Nicolas Maduro was born on November 23, 1962, in Caracas to a working-class family. In his youth, he worked as a bus driver and was active in the trade union movement. According to public records, he did not complete his secondary education.<\/p>\n

Maduro began his political career in the late 1990s as a co-founder of the Fifth Republic Movement and one of Hugo Ch\u00e1vez’s associates. In 2000, he was elected to the Venezuelan National Assembly, and later held a number of key government positions.<\/p>\n

Maduro served as Venezuela’s foreign minister from 2006 to 2012 and vice president from 2012 to 2013. He became president after Hugo Chavez’s death in March 2013.<\/p>\n

During his reign, Venezuela faced a deep economic crisis, shortages of goods, mass protests, and international isolation. The Supreme Tribunal and security forces played a key role in preserving his power after the defeat of pro-government forces in parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

The 2018 and 2024 presidential elections were marred by allegations of fraud and were not recognized by a number of countries. The United States imposed sanctions on Maduro, and in 2020 a US court indicted him on narco-terrorism charges.<\/p>\n
