US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will temporarily lead Venezuela’s administration following the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro, creating a new governance structure and preserving US control over the country’s oil assets and security.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to sources, US President Donald Trump’s team, which includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Stephen Miller and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, is developing a plan for governing Venezuela after Maduro’s arrest.<\/p>\n

“The leading role in the Venezuelan administration will be played by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has been a critic of Maduro and his predecessor Hugo Chavez throughout his career,” the sources said.<\/p>\n

Rubio was tasked with coordinating the governance of the country with a population of about 29 million people, distributing oil assets, and facilitating the formation of a new government.<\/p>\n

“All of this, I think, is premature at this point. There’s a lot that needs to be done here,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n

The US Secretary of State confirmed that the US oil “quarantine” on Venezuela will remain, and US troops can land if necessary.<\/p>\n

“Ultimately, we care about elections, we care about democracy, we care about all of that. But the most important thing for us is the security, the well-being and the prosperity of the United States. And that’s what we’re going to focus on here first,” Rubio said.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration also maintains a military “quarantine” around Venezuela to restrict the movement of oil tankers under the US sanctions list.<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump added that the US will lead the country until a safe and orderly transition is ensured, and US companies will repair Venezuela’s oil infrastructure.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on January 3, US President Donald Trump ordered strikes<\/a> on targets inside Venezuela. The country’s government declared a state of emergency<\/a> due to the American attack. Trump later announced that Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and taken out of the country<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Also, the day before, it became known that the US had completed the operation in Venezuela<\/a> , and Maduro himself will be tried for criminal offenses. Thus, the Venezuelan leader and his wife were charged with conspiracy with the purpose of \u201cnarco-terrorism\u201d and with the purpose of \u201c importing cocaine<\/a> .\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez publicly called on the United States to release Nicolas Maduro and his wife<\/a> . She also stated that the country would never become a colony of any state and called on citizens to unite.<\/p>\n
