The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, has agreed to resign from his post. The decision was made after lengthy consultations and pressure from the Office of the President.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to journalists, during a meeting with the president on Saturday, Vasyl Malyuk initially refused to resign and move to another position. He explained his position by saying that he was in the final stages of several large-scale operations.<\/p>\n

“He has several operations on the scale of “Website” in the final stages, and abandoning them now would be a crime,” the journalists note.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Malyuk stressed that if the president insists, the issue can be referred to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration. According to the UP, the general’s refusal irritated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

Journalists note that communications advisers convinced the president that the campaign of public support for Malyuk was organized by the SBU itself. After that, the head of state threatened to dismiss the head of the Security Service if he refused to write a statement voluntarily.<\/p>\n

The UP reminds that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the parliament gave the president the authority to remove officials he appoints. At the same time, some MPs fear a public outcry from applying such a procedure to Malyuk.<\/p>\n

According to journalists, the President’s Office also accused Malyuk of the SBU’s involvement in pressure on business and its connection to conflicts surrounding the NABU and SAPO. Malyuk’s own team believes that the possible resignation is linked to long-standing conflicts within the government.<\/p>\n

Despite significant support from the military, partners, and deputies, Vasyl Malyuk, according to the UP, decided not to escalate the conflict with the president and agreed to resign. The final decision on his dismissal is to be made by the Verkhovna Rada in the near future.<\/p>\n
