The next court hearing in the case of detained Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been scheduled for March 17. The hearing is taking place in New York.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maduro was brought to the courtroom without handcuffs. During the hearing, he stated that he had not previously seen the indictment and was unaware of his procedural rights.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Maduro also said he considered himself the current president of Venezuela and a prisoner of war. According to him, he was “captured in his own home in Caracas.” He stressed his innocence.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A statement was also made in court regarding his wife, Cilia Flores. She pleaded not guilty to the case of illegal trafficking of cocaine in the United States.<\/p>\n

Maduro and his wife requested a consular visit. The court agreed to allow visits to Maduro by Venezuelan consular officials.<\/p>\n

Maduro’s lawyer said he plans to request his release on bail later.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Venezuela has declared general mobilization and introduced emergency measures amid the worsening internal situation.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez stated Caracas’ readiness to work together with the US government and proposed developing a “cooperation program.”<\/a><\/p>\n
