Russia has once again postponed the launch of mass production of the MS-21 passenger aircraft, which has been under development since 2009. In all that time, the project has never produced a single production aircraft for airlines.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The start of serial production of the MS-21 was promised back in 2016. Subsequently, the deadlines were repeatedly postponed – to 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, and later they announced the start “most likely in 2025.” The situation has not changed at the moment: there are still no aircraft for civil carriers, and their appearance is unlikely until at least the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

The delay with the MS-21 reflects the general state of the Russian aviation industry. Similar problems have arisen with other “import-substitute” aircraft. Despite loud statements, actual production figures remain critically low.<\/p>\n

According to the plans of the Russian aviation industry, in 2023-2025, civil airlines were to receive 127 aircraft. In fact, only 13 aircraft were handed over to carriers. In 2026, Russia expects to deliver three Il-114 aircraft, but even these terms remain in question.<\/p>\n

The Center for Countering Disinformation notes that the Russian aviation industry is deteriorating due to war and sanctions. Companies are suffering financial losses, the aircraft fleet is rapidly aging, the number of technical incidents is increasing, and passenger flights are increasingly turning into risky travel.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that ambassadors of the European Union countries plan to approve the 20th package of sanctions against Russia on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.<\/a><\/p>\n
