On the night of January 9, Lviv was hit by a missile strike, which hit a critical infrastructure facility. After the attack, fires and gas supply disruptions were recorded in some areas of the Lviv region, and data on the use of the Oreshnik missile is being clarified.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Late in the evening of January 8, an air alert was declared throughout Ukraine due to the threat of the enemy using ballistic weapons. The Ukrainian Air Force reported a missile threat associated with possible launches from the Kapustin Yar test site.<\/p>\n

“On January 8, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., a missile alert was declared throughout the territory of Ukraine due to the threat of the enemy using ballistic missiles from the Kapustin Yar test site,” the Ukrainian Air Force reported<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Shortly after, residents of the Lviv region heard a series of explosions. The fact of the explosions in the city was confirmed by local authorities. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that immediately after the reports of the explosions, the special services began checking possible impact sites.<\/p>\n

“After the air raid alert was announced in Lviv, a series of explosions were heard. Now we are finding out what exactly happened, whether these were arrivals and in which area. We are working with all services,” said Andriy Sadovyi.<\/p>\n

Later, the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytsky, reported<\/a> that a critical infrastructure facility in the region was attacked. According to updated data, the strike caused a fire at the facility. Fire departments were working on the scene, and specialists were extinguishing the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Lviv noted that the residential sector and civilian buildings in the city were not damaged. According to preliminary information, there were no reports of deaths or injuries among the civilian population.<\/p>\n

“Whether it was Oreshnyk is currently unknown. The military will provide information. There is a flight to the critical infrastructure facility. All relevant services are working on the scene, the fire is being extinguished. There is currently no information about the victims. Civilian facilities and residential buildings in the city were not damaged,” said Andriy Sadovyi.<\/p>\n

In parallel, an examination of the debris continued, which should establish the exact type of missile launched from the territory of the Astrakhan region of Russia. The situation in Lviv remained under control, and the authorities promised to provide updates after receiving official conclusions from the military.<\/p>\n

On the morning of January 9, Russia announced the use of the Oreshnik missile during a night attack on Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that it had carried out a massive strike using precision weapons and strike UAVs, calling it<\/strong> a response to an alleged attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The objectives of the strike were achieved. The facilities for manufacturing UAVs used in the terrorist attack, as well as the energy infrastructure that ensures the operation of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, were hit,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.<\/p>\n

The Russian side did not specify which city was hit by the Oreshnik missile. However, during the stated attack, explosions were heard in Lviv, which was confirmed by local authorities.<\/p>\n

Later, Maksym Kozytskyi reported on the consequences of the shock wave in the Lviv community. According to him, a safety shut-off valve at the gas control point in the village of Rudno was triggered. Until the reasons are clarified, specialists have shut off the gas supply.<\/p>\n

“The shock wave resulting from the missile attack triggered a protective shut-off valve at the gas control point in Rudno. 376 subscribers are temporarily without gas,” said Maksym Kozytsky.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Lviv clarified that this was not a network failure, but a security system triggered by a shock wave.<\/p>\n

“This is not a network accident. The protection was triggered by a shock wave. Specialists are already working on site, checking the equipment. After that, the gas will be supplied,” said Andriy Sadovyi.<\/p>\n

Also, according to the Lviv Regional Military Administration, 6 private trucks were damaged as a result of the enemy strike. Work to restore gas supply and eliminate the consequences of the attack is ongoing.<\/p>\n

By the way, on the night of January 9, Kyiv was subjected to a massive combined attack by enemy UAVs<\/a> , which damaged residential buildings and infrastructure in several areas of the city. According to official information, 4 people were killed, and dozens of residents and emergency workers were injured.<\/p>\n

Recall that Russia shelled Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions<\/a> . As a result of the prolonged and massive attack, emergency power outages were introduced. Later, it became known that in Kryvyi Rih, as a result of a combined missile and drone attack by the Russian Federation, the number of victims increased to 17<\/a> people, including three children.<\/p>\n
