According to human rights activists, the death toll in the unrest has risen to at least 65 people.

This is reported by Reuters .

According to the American news agency Human Rights Activists News Agency, in the two weeks of anti-government protests that have shaken Iran, at least 65 people have been killed and more than 2,300 have been arrested. Among them are 48 protesters and 14 representatives of the security forces.

The watchdog also said authorities continued to block internet access across the country. On Thursday, authorities cut off internet and phone services in Tehran and other cities. One resident in the capital, Tehran, said the blockade appeared to have “backfired on the authorities.”

The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported the deaths of several police officers during the night’s unrest. Iranian state television showed footage of burning buses, cars and motorcycles, as well as fires at metro stations and banks.

Videos reviewed by journalists captured hundreds of people marching in Tehran, showing protesters chanting slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and expressing support for the monarchy, which was overthrown in 1979.

In the city of Zahedan, home to a large Baloch minority, a march after Friday prayers was fired upon, with several people injured, according to the rights group Hengaw.

In a televised address, Iran’s supreme leader accused protesters of collaborating with foreign opposition forces and the United States.

“The Islamic Republic came to power through the blood of hundreds of thousands of people. It will not retreat before vandals,” said Ali Khamenei.

He also stated that the protesters, in his words, are trying to please Donald Trump. The prosecutor of Tehran, for his part, threatened the participants of the riots with the death penalty.

Journalists note that the Iranian authorities are taking a dual approach, recognizing the economic demands of some protesters, but at the same time harshly suppressing the demonstrations using forceful methods.

At the same time, on January 10, Donald Trump issued a warning to the Iranian authorities against using force against demonstrators.

“You better not start shooting, because we’ll start shooting too,” said Donald Trump.

He also said he hoped for the safety of protesters and called Iran “a very dangerous place.”

The leaders of France, Britain and Germany issued a joint statement condemning the killings of protesters and calling on Iranian authorities to refrain from violence. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the United Nations was gravely concerned by the deaths.

At the same time, Iran’s ambassador to the UN placed responsibility for the escalation on the US, accusing Washington of destabilizing actions and inciting protests.

It is worth adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appealed to Ukrainian citizens who are in Iran with a recommendation to leave the country.

As is known,a wave of mass protests has erupted in Iran, caused by the rapid fall of the national currency and the worsening economic crisis . Against the backdrop of the collapse of the Iranian rial, the ayatollah regime is increasingly losing control of the situation, which is causing open resistance in various regions of the country.

Subsequently, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei prepared a plan to flee the country in case anti-government protests escalated and control over the security forces was lost.

Trump previously said the United States could intervene in Iran’s internal affairs if it brutally suppresses peaceful protests. He stressed that the United States is ready to support the demonstrators if the Iranian authorities use lethal force.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , Twitter , Telegram , and Instagram .

Mass anti-government protests continue in Iran, affecting dozens of cities across the country.
