Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that if a referendum were held on the unification of Moldova and Romania, she would vote for reunification.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sandu recalled that in the late 1980s, national revival movements were ongoing in Moldova, and the topic of reunification with Romania was actively discussed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“In the late 1980s, there were national revival movements and, of course, there were discussions about reunification with Romania, since Moldova used to be part of Romania. But at that time, we couldn’t know how many people would vote, because there was no referendum,” she noted.<\/p>\n

Responding to a direct question about her own position, the president gave a clear answer.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“If we had a referendum, I would vote for unification with Romania,” Sandu said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She explained her position by the geopolitical situation around Moldova and in the world in general, while emphasizing the real mood in society.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive, to exist as a democracy, as a sovereign country. But as the President of Moldova, I understand that there is no majority that would support unification with Romania. At the same time, there is a majority that supports joining the EU, and we are working to achieve this goal,” she added.<\/p>\n

Earlier, it was reported that Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Chisinau is ready to provide financial assistance to the self-proclaimed Transnistria in the face of an energy crisis.<\/a><\/p>\n

Recall, Moldova decided to reduce the tariff for natural gas transit from Greece to Ukraine by 50% in preparation for the 2025\u20132026 heating season.<\/a><\/p>\n
