Ukraine is currently unable to cover more than a third of its domestic electricity needs due to damage to the power system. Consumption reached 18 gigawatts the day before, while the system’s capacity is only 11 gigawatts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced<\/a> by President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n

According to him, Ukraine’s power system continues to operate under significant restrictions after massive attacks on energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He added that recovery efforts continue after each attack, but they require a comprehensive approach.<\/p>\n

“Recovery takes place after each strike. We have a large number of repair crews. But they cannot do everything themselves, this is complex work,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

The Head of State also reported that work is being carried out daily not only to restore damaged facilities, but also to support the technical capabilities of electricity imports.<\/p>\n

“Work is underway every day to not only restore the stations, but also the technical capabilities of importing electricity, which are also being destroyed by daily Russian attacks,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Zelenskyy noted that he would not disclose information about specific locations of restoration work.<\/p>\n

“I will not specify where exactly the restoration is taking place, as this creates the risk of a second strike,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the President reported that the previous day, the level of electricity consumption in Ukraine was 18 gigawatts, while the existing capabilities of the power system allowed for only 11 gigawatts.<\/p>\n

It is worth adding that in Ukraine, houses with electric heating will no longer be disconnected from the electricity supply during planned restrictions<\/a> . Such houses will be classified as critical infrastructure facilities, however, power outages are possible in the event of emergency outages.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Ukraine’s energy system is in difficult conditions due to intensive Russian shelling and the most severe winter in 20 years<\/a> . In connection with the emergency situation in the energy sector, the Government has identified a set of measures to overcome its consequences.<\/p>\n

By the way, on January 15, the Russian army destroyed a critical energy infrastructure facility in Kharkiv with a missile attack.<\/a><\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Russian occupiers struck at Ukraine’s energy infrastructure facilities<\/a> , resulting in power outages for consumers in the Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions.<\/p>\n
