The Security Service of Ukraine prevented a series of terrorist attacks that Russian military intelligence planned to carry out in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Uman, and Odessa.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the press service of the SBU.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Counterintelligence detained an agent of the Russian GRU who was preparing caches of explosives to blow up vehicles of the Defense Forces.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, enemy special services planned to use improvised explosive devices to attack military personnel. The task was carried out by a 55-year-old former law enforcement officer from the Odessa region, who was recruited by the occupiers through anti-Ukrainian comments on social media.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

After recruitment, the agent received the coordinates of the caches where the blanks for three plastid-based improvised explosive devices with electric detonators were stored, as well as two anti-personnel mines.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The suspect equipped the explosives with remote detonation devices and planted them in new caches according to the instructions of the curator from the Russian Federation. Most of the time, such caches were located on the outskirts of cities, away from residential areas. <\/p>\n

“After that, other members of the spy network were supposed to take the explosives from the caches and plant them under the vehicles of the Ukrainian military,” the SBU reported.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Counterintelligence uncovered the enemy’s plan in advance, documented the actions of the agent and his handler step by step, and also seized and neutralized all improvised explosive devices and other means of destruction. <\/p>\n

During the searches, law enforcement officers additionally found explosives and components for their manufacture on the detainee.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

SBU investigators informed the defendant of suspicion under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular, for high treason, preparation of a terrorist attack, and illegal handling of explosives.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The perpetrator is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Operational measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Chernihiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office, working with the Ministry of Defense, uncovered a large-scale scheme to embezzle public funds.<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was preparing a missile strike on the Kropyvnytskyi thermal power plant<\/a> . The suspect turned out to be a 16-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi.<\/p>\n
