Washington is considering an offer to Ukraine to give up Donbas in exchange for a $800 billion financing plan for the country’s reconstruction.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported<\/a> by Corriere della Sera.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the publication, American negotiators have prepared several documents that could form the basis of a potential peace agreement. One option involves the transfer of part of Donbas to Russia and the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the region. At the same time, the territory would remain de jure under Ukraine, in order to preserve the possibility of its return after Vladimir Putin’s departure.<\/p>\n

The media reports that the US is offering Ukraine two incentives: an $800 billion reconstruction financing plan and US security guarantees to support the possible deployment of European troops. However, the parties have not yet reached any agreements, and the issues of NATO participation and the actual timing of funding remain open.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The documents also prescribed a sequence of actions: first, Ukraine must agree to concessions regarding Donbas, after which the parties will begin negotiations on financial assistance. At the same time, according to media reports, the $800 billion recovery plan currently exists only on paper and has no real financial backing.<\/p>\n

Separately, the question of whether Putin will agree to security guarantees that include the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine remains uncertain.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Donbas issue will be central during the trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia<\/a> , which will be held in the UAE on January 23-24.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the US and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of offering Russia a limited \u201cenergy truce,\u201d<\/a> which would involve a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure on both sides.<\/p>\n
