The demographic situation in Ukraine remains critical: during 2025, the country lost almost half a million people, and mortality exceeded the birth rate three times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

By the end of 2025, over 485,000 deaths were registered in Ukraine, while the number of newborns did not even reach 170,000. Thus, for every child born, there were approximately three deaths. <\/p>\n

Analytical data show that the overall mortality rate has decreased slightly compared to the previous year \u2014 by approximately 2%. However, even this has not changed the overall negative demographic picture.<\/p>\n

The highest number of deaths was recorded in Dnipropetrovsk region \u2014 over 52 thousand cases. This is followed by Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Odesa regions, where the number also reaches tens of thousands.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the situation in the regions is developing unevenly. In Poltava and Rivne regions, the number of deaths decreased by approximately 4%, which was one of the few positive signals.<\/p>\n

However, mortality rates increased in six regions. The most notable increase was in the capital, where the rate increased by 2%. Increases were also recorded in Chernivtsi, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, and Lviv regions.<\/p>\n

Experts note that the combination of war, migration, an aging population, and low birth rates continues to put pressure on the country’s demographic balance.<\/p>\n

Recall that Ukraine is rapidly approaching a demographic catastrophe: the war is sharply reducing the population, reducing the birth rate, and undermining the country’s ability to recover.<\/a><\/p>\n
