That is, for example, why not on some other day? Here I think it’s just more about hope,” Faraponov emphasized.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP67UD9GX6E&t=284s

Meeting in Abu Dhabi: why negotiations with the Russians ended in nothing

In his opinion, the main factors influencing the timing of the negotiations are the dynamics of mutual signals between Washington and Moscow. Although the Mar-a-Lago meeting, where security guarantees were to be discussed with the participation of European leaders, is currently postponed, the spring period remains a window for intensifying diplomatic efforts.

The expert believes that Ukrainian diplomacy needs to look for new arguments to increase pressure on Russia. According to Faraponov, the Davos forum showed that the world community understands the Russian side’s reluctance to end the war, so further developments will depend on the US’s willingness to use economic and political leverage to achieve a ceasefire.

As a reminder, former US Presidential Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg stated during the panel discussion “Ukraine: The Future on the Front Lines” in Davos that the war in Ukraine could end by the fall of 2026 if Ukrainian forces survive the winter and emerge in the spring with an advantage over the Russian occupiers.

According to him, the coming months – January and February – remain critical. If Ukraine survives this period, in March-April it will be able to take the initiative that will open the way to ending the war by Independence Day, August 24, 2026.

Fateful Spring: Is it realistic to end the war in 2026?

The trilateral negotiations involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place on January 23-24 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, concluded the day before.
