Meanwhile, sumo wrestler Atamifuji also won, matching Yavgusishin&#8217;s record, so the title would be decided in a playoff.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"667\"> In a head-to-head battle that lasted 13 seconds, Aonishiki emerged victorious. Thus, Daniil Yavgusishin became the victor of the Hatsu Basho and received the Emperor&#8217;s Cup.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"669\" data-end=\"828\"> The Vinnytsia native became the third European to win the Hatsu Basho. The previous winners were Estonian Baruto in 2012 and Georgian Tochinoshina in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"1127\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"> As a reminder, in November 2025, Yavgusishin won the Kyushu Basho and achieved the rank of ozeki, the second-highest rank in sumo. To achieve the highest rank, yokozuna, Aonishiki needs to win another makuuchi tournament.
