Chinese President Xi Jinping has initiated an investigation into two of China’s most influential generals, Zhang Yuxia and Liu Zhengli, who are suspected of serious disciplinary and legal violations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is noted that on January 24, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense said that 75-year-old Zhang Yuxia, vice chairman of the Communist Party’s Central Military Commission and one of the country’s key military leaders, is under investigation for serious violations of party discipline and state laws.<\/p>\n

He is also being investigated for Liu Zhengli, 61, the chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Chinese armed forces, who is responsible for combat planning and military operations. According to a Defense Ministry spokesman, the charges against both generals are of the same nature.<\/p>\n

\u201cZhang Yuxia and Liu Zhengli are under investigation for serious disciplinary and legal violations,\u201d a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense said.<\/p>\n

Analysts note that Zhang Yuxia and Liu Zhengli were key figures in the modernization of China’s armed forces and were among the few generals with combat experience.<\/p>\n

Zhang Yuxia was considered a longtime associate of Xi Jinping. His father was a revolutionary who fought alongside the current president’s father during the civil war that ended with the Communist Party coming to power in 1949.<\/p>\n

Analysts say the investigations into senior military officials are part of a broader campaign to purge the armed forces of officials seen as corrupt or politically unreliable. In recent years, dozens of senior military commanders and heads of China’s defense industry have been removed or investigated.<\/p>\n

Journalists note that Zhang Yuxia last appeared in public on November 20 during talks with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov in Moscow. The Chinese Defense Ministry has not commented on the generals’ fate.<\/p>\n
