The passenger ferry MV Trisha Kerstin 3 sank in the southern Philippines with more than 350 people on board. At least 15 people died in the accident, while hundreds of passengers were rescued.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The accident occurred at around 01:50 local time on January 26, as the passenger ship was heading to Jolo City in Sulu province after leaving the port of Zamboanga. According to official figures, there were 332 passengers and 27 crew members on board.<\/p>\n

The Philippine Coast Guard said the ship was operating within its authorized passenger capacity of 352. As of this morning, at least 15 people were confirmed dead, while another 316 passengers had been rescued.<\/p>\n

Search and rescue operations are ongoing as 28 people are still missing. The commander of the Philippine Coast Guard’s Southern Region, Romel Dua, said the work is being carried out in relatively calm sea conditions, allowing the operation to be expedited.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are continuing the search for the missing, additional vessels and aircraft are involved in the operation,\u201d said Romel Dua.<\/p>\n

He said military aircraft and ships were deployed to assist rescuers, while an official investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.<\/p>\n

Basilan provincial governor Mujib Hataman posted a video on social media from the port of Isabela on the island of Mindanao, showing the arrival of rescued passengers. The footage shows people wrapped in thermal blankets and injured people being transported on stretchers.<\/p>\n

“Most of those rescued are in stable condition, but several elderly passengers required emergency medical attention,” Mujib Khataman said.<\/p>\n

He also added that authorities continue to verify passenger lists during the rescue operation.<\/p>\n
