{"id":1349725,"date":"2026-01-27T13:32:44","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T11:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/unesco-assesses-damage-to-cultural-sites-in-kyiv-and-odessa\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T13:32:44","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T11:32:44","slug":"unesco-assesses-damage-to-cultural-sites-in-kyiv-and-odessa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prm.ua\/en\/unesco-assesses-damage-to-cultural-sites-in-kyiv-and-odessa\/","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO assesses damage to cultural sites in Kyiv and Odessa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UNESCO is conducting a technical assessment of damage to two Ukrainian cultural heritage sites that were damaged by Russian attacks: the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv and the Odessa Astronomical Observatory.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/mfa.gov.ua\/news\/maryana-beca-provela-zustrich-z-kerivniceyu-ofisu-yunesko-v-ukrayini1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was reported<\/a> by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1106\" data-end=\"1318\"> The issue of damage assessment was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, Mariana Betsa, and the Head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine, Chiara Deci Bardeschi.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1576\"> According to Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, UNESCO has begun a technical examination and monitoring of damage to the Odessa Astronomical Observatory. The object has the status of temporary enhanced protection in accordance with the 1954 Hague Convention and the Second Protocol of 1999.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1785\"> In parallel, the organization is assessing the damage caused to the objects of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, which were damaged during Russia&#8217;s massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of January 24, 2026.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1787\" data-end=\"2050\"> According to the Ministry of Culture, <a href=\"https:\/\/prm.ua\/cherez-rosiysku-ataku-postrazhdaly-pam-iatky-kyievo-pecherskoi-lavry\/\">the facade of the Annunciation Church and elements of the Dalnye Pechery complex were damaged as a result of the impact<\/a> .
