Germany plans to be the first in Europe to create its own satellite system for missile detection. Berlin believes that dependence on the United States for space defense has become too critical.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Commander of the Space Forces of the German Ministry of Defense, Major General Michael Traut, stated that the issue of creating such a system is urgent due to the growing threats.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“An early warning system and satellite-based missile detection is a very urgent task. The threat is imminent,” he said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, Europe is now almost entirely dependent on the United States for space defense capabilities, and this situation needs to change.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Europe depends on the US more or less for all aspects of space capabilities. We urgently need to increase our own capabilities,” Trout stressed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He added that Germany wants not only to detect missile launches at an early stage, but also to be able to react before the threat reaches its target.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We don’t just want to see missiles at launch. We want to be able to combat them at an early stage,” the major general noted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, Germany is already planning to create a basic satellite missile detection system. Although the project will have national status, it will be open to cooperation with other European countries.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Such opportunities will make Germany and Europe stronger partners for the United States,” Trout added.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He did not name any specific deadlines or budget for the project, but emphasized that there is no time for delay.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“We were tasked with being ready for war in 2029. But in space, we have to be ready now, if needed,” he said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Currently, European countries rely on a space-based warning system provided by the United States through NATO to detect long-range missiles.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that Germany offered Brazil to purchase dozens of Leopard 2A6 tanks and Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicles.<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the German government plans to increase financial assistance to Ukraine by three billion euros in 2026. The funds will be used to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian army.<\/a><\/p>\n
